The ex-Caledonian Railway lines north of the ClydeThese pages illustrate a photographic visit to the remains of what was part of Glasgow's extensive suburban railway network. Images digitally captured during the summer of 2009. No attempt has been made to provide the historical background to these lines built by the Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire Railway and the Glasgow Central Railway both of which became absorbed into the Caledonian Railway in the early twentieth century. Passenger services were withdrawn from these lines in October 1964.The inspiration for this visit was the book "An Illustrated History of Glasgow's Railways" published by the Irwell Press. Thanks is also due to Paul Anderson for kind permission to use his map of the original North Side railway network.Superimposed on the map are stations marked in red, click on the station to go directly to the page that covers that area.
